The EFT Tapping Points
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a mind-body healing modality that uses a sequence of tapping on specific acupressure points on the face, body, and hands. This activates the body's stress-response system (the amygdala) while simultaneously engaging the cognitive (thinking) brain, allowing stuck emotions and physical tension to release.
The Basic Tapping Sequence
Tap 5–7 times on each point while focusing on the issue you're working with. Always begin with the Karate Chop point and your Setup Statement.
The Tapping Points: In Order
- Karate Chop (KC): The fleshy outer edge of the hand, below the little finger. Used for the Setup Statement.
- Top of Head (TH): The very crown of the head. Use all four fingers tapping together.
- Eyebrow (EB): At the beginning of the eyebrow, just above and to the side of the nose.
- Side of Eye (SE): On the bone bordering the outer corner of the eye.
- Under Eye (UE): On the bone under the eye, about 1 inch below the pupil.
- Under Nose (UN): Between the nose and upper lip.
- Chin (CH): In the indentation between the chin and lower lip.
- Collarbone (CB): Just below the hard ridge of the collarbone, about 1 inch from centre.
- Under Arm (UA): About 4 inches below the armpit, in line with the nipple.
How to Use the Tapping Points
Step 1: Identify what you want to work on. Choose one issue: a specific fear, a pain, an emotion, a memory, or a craving. Be specific.
Step 2: Rate the intensity. Give it a number from 0 (nothing) to 10 (maximum). This is your SUD (Subjective Units of Distress) score.
Step 3: Create your Setup Statement. While tapping on the Karate Chop point, repeat three times: "Even though I have this anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself." Swap "anxiety" for whatever you are working on: a headache, a craving, a worry.
Step 4: Tap through the sequence. Starting at the eyebrow, tap 5–7 times on each point while saying a short reminder phrase (e.g. "this anxiety", "this tightness in my chest", "this fear").
Step 5: Re-rate the intensity. What is the number now? Repeat until you are at 2 or below.
